Make Online Marketing Your Business  

If you already run your own small or home based business then you could benefit from having an online presence and marketing your business through the internet.  Or if you are thinking of starting your own home based business then online marketing is in many ways an ideal business.  Online marketing doesn't demand fixed hours, and it will run whilst you are offline.

But online marketing is not a get rich quick scheme.  Like any other business, or parts of an existing business, hard work and dedication are needed for success.

You can run an online business along side a bricks and mortar business.  You could for example have a high street shop but also sell through the internet.  Or perhaps you offer offline services but want to gain a higher profile or be able to better reach your customers by being online.  The combinations are endless.

On the other hand, you can run your own business entirely on the internet, without leaving home.  You don't have to have your own products or deal with orders, payment, shipping or any other offline activity.  Of course you can do these things if you want or need to, and there are great online tools to help you do it.

One great advantage of  online business is the low cost of set up, and the low running costs compared with a bricks and mortar operation. 

People are sometimes tempted to run an online business for nothing.  It can be done, but I don't recommend it.  It is very hard work and your business will grow more slowly than it would with the injection of cash.  Even a small amount will improve your chances enormously.  If you are new to online marketing, take a look at the basics, and even get your business going, with my free internet classroom.

If you want a book on the subject, there are many out there.  "Starting an Online Business for Dummies" is, of course, one of the "for Dummies" series, and is excellent.
